Introduction

.

Danson Seed Company, Inc is an innovative, family owned research and

development based vegetable seed company. Its experienced research group

has over two generations of experience devoted to breeding a wide range

of vegetable and agronomic crops. The company employs traditional breeding

technology to develop innovative new hybrids of tomatoes, peppers, watermelon,

and sweet corn.  The company has been developing new hybrids that lower the

grower’s production costs and provide improved yields, while maintaining

high fruit quality to the consumer.

Company policy has been to breed according to the demands of the marketplace.

One of the important innovative factors of good plant breeding is the artistic side.

In other words, breaking out of molds and moving on to develop totally new shapes,

sizes and flavors.  Good breeding is also based on the company’s germplasm base.

Danson has over 1300 pepper and over 900 tomato inbred parent lines and selections.

Danson has been developing extended shelf life ground culture tomatoes for

over a decade. One of the factors our breeding staff is proud of is that many of

our tomatoes have varied characteristics that make them high quality and very tasty.

These characteristics are acid: sugar ratio, firm non-mealy flesh, good skin and flesh

color, and smell.

In the company’s continuing search for high quality tomatoes, it has developed

a series of very high quality cherry tomatoes including Merlot and our “Golden Fruit”

series.  Golden Fruit are golden colored cherry tomatoes of varying shapes

(round, pear, elongated, egg) with very high levels of sugar, fantastic flavor,

and very naturally occurring firm flesh. Using this material our breeders have

created hybrids of such high quality that they can be served as dessert.

Danson’s open-field saladette hybrids are very early, high-yielding and tolerant

to TYLCV and TWSV. Currently we are also working on indeterminate saladettes.

Danson’s mainstay for many years was its hot pepper program. Danson has a

multitude of hot pepper hybrids with varying sizes, shapes, colors and disease

resistances. The serrano program has also been making very good headway over the

past 6 years with Senor Serrano leading the way. Very low cracking Jalapeno hybrids

of dark green color have also been commercialized. Our hybrid Fresno has set new

standards for production. There is also available Pasillas, Anchos, Chile de Arbos,

Habaneros, sweet and hot Anahiems, Cherries (sweet and hot) Spikes (sweet and hot)

Corno de Toros, cayennes, Thai chiles, Kapyas, Dolmas, Demres, Corbacis, Lamuyos

and Blocky Bells (hot and sweet).

The Danson watermelon program’s priority has been for  the production of superior high quality hybrid watermelons for fresh market and industry. The emphasis of the company is first and foremost on fruit quality, followed by yield, disease resistance and shipping quality. Crimson Genetics conducts a  very rigorous selection process to produce watermelons  of excellent eating quality. Our breeders concentrate their efforts on selecting watermelons with   high flesh pressure, high sugar, good shelf life, thin rinds, excellent flavor, resistance to hallow heart, and good color.  Danson endeavors to make the fruit pleasing to the eye as well as to the palate.

The company produces a variety of fruit sizes (personal, medium and large) ,rind patterns (solid colors, stripes, and mottled)  and shapes (round, oval, and oblong). Crimson Genetics breeds both diploid (seeded) and triploid (seedless)  hybrid watermelons.

All our vegetable hybrids are GMO-free.

Currently our sales are in Southwest US, Mexico, Florida, Chile, England, France, Bulgaria, Turkey, South Africa, and South Korea.

Company policy has been to breed according to the demands of the market place. Danson encourages you to assist us in better serving your needs. Our sales and research staff would like to hear from you about your specific needs concerning tomatoes, peppers, or watermelons. Your input may help us design products that better serve your production and market needs.
